Gardening progress...

Remember how our garden looked here? Well now it looks a lot different and we recently decided to put down some pinestraw too. The pinestraw helps to discourage the weeds, keeps the veggies from rotting so much on the ground, and helps to keep the moisture in the ground longer.

We've been harvesting some veggies from each plant, although not as much as I expected from some of them. We have had some issues with the squash and zucchini rotting before it is ready to be picked. Our tomato crop is picking up slowly and I think we will start getting a lot more tomatoes soon. The bell peppers have done really great, as well as the basil and the cilantro.

Here are some pictures so you can see what the garden looks like.

Did you plant a garden this year? If so, how is your garden going? I'd love to see links to your garden posts!

I love your garden! We did our first garden this year (bought our first house last December, and prior to this year, I grew everything in pots!) We tried growing cucumbers, string beans, snap peas, zucchini, tomatoes, basil and lettuce. I have some herbs in pots on my porch, too. You can see the zucchini here: http://worldofjaime.blogspot.com/2009/07/3-pounds-of-greatness.html The tomatoes haven't ripened yet, and the lettuce is a little boring :)
