WFMW - Carpet Spills

So the other day…there was this terrible mishap at our house. I was sitting on the living room floor with my 10 month old, Abigail. I looked down and in about one second, Abigail had pulled herself up to the coffee table and knocked over my ¾ full 16 oz. cup of coffee. Major disaster!

Needless to say, the carpet was soaked, and I didn’t know what to do. I soaked up what I could with some towels and then decided to try baking soda…just to see if it might work. So I sprinkled a whole 16 oz. box all over the spot and let it sit for a few hours while we took off to run some errands. When we got back the baking soda was wet and brown (from the coffee). It had soaked up more moisture than I actually thought was still in the carpet, which was good. I vacuumed up the baking soda, but the carpet was still rather damp and looked like it was stained. I was about to go search the internet for answers, but decided that I would just try another round of baking soda to see if it would soak up anything else. Well, it worked! When I vacuumed up the second round, you couldn’t even tell there had ever been a coffee spill on the carpet! Yep, I’m pretty happy! So baking soda for carpet spills…works for me!

I never thought to use baking soda as a carpet cleaner. I guess, when in doubt, try baking soda!

Thanks for sharing!

Good thing the coffee didn't spill on her. When I was her age, I did the same thing and the coffee hit my neck and shoulder. I ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks with 3rd degree burns....

Thanks for the tip! With a three year old and a six month old--I will have plenty of "opportunity" to try it out!

Wow; glad to hear she's ok! Baking soda is great for cleaning up throw up from upholstery too. I know it sounds gross, but there will come a stomach bug time in your house you'll be glad to know it, lol! Blessings, Whitney
