The 200 Challenge - June Update

It's time for The 200 Challenge update, June edition!  I can't wait to see how you all are doing with spending less on groceries in 2010!  If you're new to The 200 Challenge, you can read all about it here.

I thought I learned my lesson in April, but apparently not.  Our spending for May totalled $201.67 out of our $200.00 budget.  I just sort of lost track again, and then I realized "oh, I'm over budget".  I did stop the spending for the rest of the month though, which meant we were without cheese and coffee and some other items for a while.  It's really true that if you don't keep track of what you're spending it will just get out of hand.  That's why this challenge has really been so great, because it makes me aware of what we're spending and how far that money will go.  Maybe I need to start taking a calcuator into the store with me.  Or maybe I just need to stop taking stuff off the shelf that isn't on my list.  Well, here goes June!

Here are some of my meal ideas for the month of June: (I will be adding side dishes to these)
Spaghetti
Bean, Rice, & Cheese Burritos
Black-Eyed Peas
Homemade Pizza
Pancakes
Simple Italian Pasta
Stir-Fry Veggies & Rice
Easy Cheesy Baked Ziti
Taco Salad
Baked Potatoes
Black Beans & Rice
Mexican Layer Casserole
Mac & Cheese
Fresh Veggie Quesadillas
Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas
Grilled Maui Maui
Black Bean Soup

Now it's your turn!  How did you do in May?  What do you plan to do different in June?  Blog about it anytime in June then come back here and link up!

I used a calculator for the first time this weekend at Aldi. I had exactly $74 in cash that I could spend, and punched in the cost of each item as I went and totaled $73.09 (fortunately MN has no sales tax on food so I didn't have to worry about any of that extra math!) It really helped me stay on budget. There were a few items not on my list that I was going to grab and the calculator stopped me from putting them in my cart. It's a little extra work but it worth it for me in the long run.
