The 200 Challenge - August 2011

Last month I blogged about how we were going back on the 200 Challenge.  Well we've been at it for a month and I am happy to say that we managed to stay under budget for July!  It wasn't easy, and near the end of the month we were out of several things that we are used to having a pretty constant supply of {ie. bananas, peanut butter, cheese, and milk}, but we made it.  :-)

Setting a grocery budget really makes you aware of food prices.  Ouch!  Near the end of July we went to pick up just a few staples such as oil, flour, rice, and a couple produce items, and it was crazy how fast those few things added up.

For our totals in the month of July, we spent $196.95 out of our $200 budget, leaving $3.05 left over.  We're debating what to do with any money that is left at the end of each month.  Maybe we will put it on our student loan debt {which is what we are working to get paid off right now} or maybe we will give it away.

You can see our menu for this week here.  Also, below are some of the main dishes we plan to eat for the month of August.

Baked Spaghetti

Lentil Rice Casserole
