Homemade Pizza Crust

I used to use those little boxes of dry mix from the store.  I thought it was a lot easier than making my own pizza dough.  That was until I found this recipe.  This pizza crust is so yummy and so easy, plus it is better for you too.  I think I always dreaded how long it took for all the rising and kneading and such.  But with this recipe, that dread is now a thing of the past.  This whole wheat pizza dough is amazing!  My hubby and my girls love it too...we even make this recipe into bread sticks and flatbread too, which we eat with soups and other stuff.

Homemade Pizza Dough
1 c. warm water
1 pkg. yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp.)
1 tsp. honey (you can use sugar instead, but I like to use honey)

1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. olive oil (or any kind)
2 1/2 c. flour (I use 1 1/2 c. whole wheat & 1 c. all purpose)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix together the first 3 ingredients in a large bowl.  Allow the yeast to proof (this step can be skipped if you don't have time).

Next, add the remaining ingredients and mix together.  Knead the dough 5-10 times (I do it right in the bowl).

Let the dough rise for about 30 minutes (again, if you have the time).

Grease a pizza pan or a cookie sheet.  Press the dough into the pan.

If making into pizza, spread pizza sauce on the dough.  Add toppings and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.

If making into breadsticks or quick bread, apply desired toppings* and bake for 8-10 minutes.

* I like to spread with olive oil or butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and parmesan cheese.

Enjoy!!

Mmm...I LOVE homemade pizza! I am a total failure at anything with yeast, but my breadmaker does a fabulous job!! ;)
