Water, Water, and More Water

I remember when I was growing up how my parents taught my siblings and I to love water. I remember never liking soft drinks...simply because we never drank them. I remember accidentally taking a rather generous drink from a cup of Sprite one time (mistaking it for water) and being very unpleasantly shocked. That is how much I hated soft drinks. And even to this day, married and on my own, I would NEVER choose a soda over water.

I remember drinking juice sometimes as a kid. It was a RARE treat. We would occasionally get some juice with lunch, but, after one bottle being divided 8 or 9 ways, there was, needless to say, just a few sips per person. And boy did we think we were special. We sipped that juice with more pleasure than you can probably imagine. Milk was a rarity as well, usually only to be had with cereal, or on occasion, to be portioned out with muffins for breakfast.

Now, as a mom, I am very thankful for that foundation. Not only did it teach me to appreciate simple things, but it has helped me to see how beneficial it is to train your children early to love water. It thrills me to see my 6 month old drink water and beg for that next drink. It's good to know that she is establishing good habits and learning to love something that is healthy and free.

That said, today's frugal tip is: drink more water, drink less of everything else. Water is the least expensive and most healthy of all drinks. So get in the habit.

Amen! I totally agree! I shudder when I hear of people consuming multiple six-packs of sodas a week! How can one do that? Soda should be a rare treat- that is, if you even like it! (I don't) :)
It's good to hear of someone giving their baby just water. Seems like the "norm" is to give babies lots of juice. Praise God for water! :)

I wish I hated soda. I try and drink my water but sometimes. I am getting better. But you are right.

Water is wonderful! Watch out, though. I'm getting over a 'water addiction'. You laugh? It's true! I've realized that I'm drinking way too much water every day and need to cut back. While I should be drinking about 60-65 oz a day, I've realized that I'm drinking more like 160 oz a day. Yikes! Drinking water is healthy, but I let my mind run wild with that mindset and have been 'drowning' myself, without knowing it.
